Barsinghausen, March 10, 2026 — SCHOLLGLAS and LuxWall are proud to announce they have obtained a voluntary CE marking for GEWE Enthermal™. With the CE marking, SCHOLLGLAS and LuxWall confirm compliance with EU safety, health, and environmental protection standards and earn simplified approval for use within the European Economic Area. This paves the way for the use of Transparent Insulation in a wide range of windows and façade applications in accordance with building regulations.
Since the European Construction Products Regulation (EU-BauPVO) 305/2011 came into effect, CE marking has been mandatory for construction products covered by standardized technical specifications published in the Official Journal of the EU. LuxWall™ and SCHOLLGLAS initiated the CE marking process through an individual European Technical Assessment by the European Organization for Technical Assessment (EOTA). This was obtained in December 2025 with the publication of ETA 25/0363.
For GEWE Enthermal™, characteristics such as fire behavior, durability, acoustic performance, light transmission and reflection behavior, and thermal insulation performance with different coatings were independently tested and verified in ETA 25/0363.
“With the CE Marking, we have taken an important step toward market penetration for GEWE Enthermal’s Transparent Insulation technology with our partner LuxWall. We can now guarantee our customers, builders, developers, and authorities the relevant physical and technical properties in a trusted and verifiable manner,” states Günter Weidemann, Managing Partner of the SCHOLLGLAS Group.
“CE certification is a critical milestone because it shifts Transparent Insulation from an emerging technology to an option building owners can confidently deploy,” said Scott Thomsen, CEO & Founder of LuxWall. “This certification affirms that the system meets the expectations of one of the most quality-driven building markets in the world. SCHOLLGLAS is now equipped to deliver a solution that aligns with Germany’s long-term energy and modernization goals.”
High-performance Transparent Insulation is increasingly gaining the interest of building owners, architects, developers, and builders due to its outstanding insulating properties. In renovation projects, it offers a practical, cost-effective replacement of inefficient single- and double-glazed windows while retaining original frames.
Ultra insulating windows with Ug values in the 0.3–0.5 W/m²K range perform significantly beyond the minimum efficiency levels required for replacement windows under Germany’s Building Energy Act (GEG), helping building owners not only comply with current standards but also futureproof their assets against tightening regulations. By dramatically reducing heat loss through the building envelope, GEWE Enthermal makes it easier for projects across Germany and the EU to meet energy efficiency and emissions reduction targets set under national law and the EU’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.
In new construction, GEWE Enthermal™ and GEWE Enthermal Plus™ are high-performance solutions for achieving energy-efficient buildings. With a Ug value of 0.3 W/m²K in an 8-mm profile, GEWE Enthermal insulates as effectively as an average insulated brick wall, allowing it to outperform the energy performance of conventional triple glazing with lower weight and improved sound attenuation. With GEWE Enthermal Plus™ hybrid structures, values as low as 0.25 W/m²K can be achieved.
About SCHOLLGLAS
The SCHOLLGLAS Group was founded in 1969 and is a medium-sized, independent network of companies specializing in the glass trade, production, and finishing of all types of flat glass.
SCHOLLGLAS operates with approximately 1,400 employees from 18 locations both in the international market and locally. Its headquarters are in Barsinghausen near Hanover.
The company draws on over 55 years of experience in the glass trade and the corresponding expertise in the production of flat glass: In addition to insulating glass, the group also covers the growing demand for tempered safety glass, heat-strengthened glass, and laminated safety glass, including upstream finishing steps such as sandblasting, etching, laser technology, and screen and digital printing.
About LuxWall™
Headquartered in Ypsilanti, MI, USA, LuxWall is focused on product development, scaling, and commercialization of innovative energy-efficient products and solutions for the built environment. LuxWall’s Transparent Insulation technology, Enthermal™, provides a step change in energy performance by eliminating or significantly reducing convective, conductive, and radiative heat gain and heat loss in buildings. LuxWall manufactures its Enthermal product line at its Litchfield, Michigan manufacturing plant, and is constructing its second manufacturing plant in Detroit, Michigan.
